Study English, then practise your language skills while volunteering in a local non-for-profit.

Build your English skills in class, then improve fluency while you make a difference in the world.

Choose from our wide variety of English courses and spend 6-12 weeks developing your language abilities. Then volunteer with a Canadian non-profit organization that works in an area you’re passionate about like arts & tourism, the environment, or social & community support. A volunteer experience will help you expand your English fluency, meet local Canadians, and enhance your curriculum vitae.

  • MUST be at least 18 years old in Toronto and Montréal and 19 years old in Vancouver.

Courses

Choose from a variety of course options available at our Canadian Schools. To prepare you for the volunteer experience, we recommend including Business English courses, or courses that focus on topics related to your volunteer experience goals. See some of our suggestions.

Business English develops your English skills for an international business workplace. Practice speaking, listening, reading and writing for a variety of business contexts. Develop accuracy in grammar and vocabulary to communicate effectively in business situations. Topics cover a wide range of general business subjects including careers, management styles and customer service.

This course is designed for students who are interested in learning and practicing business English as it relates to management and human resources. English through Global Social Issues is designed to improve your English speaking, reading, vocabulary and critical thinking skills by exploring and discussing contemporary social issues of international appeal such as women’s and children’s rights, health care and environmental issues. In this course, you will develop your English skills through research and discussing thought-provoking and relevant issues of the day.

English through Green Leadership gives you the opportunity to build your English skills and explore the topics of global environmental issues and leadership skills. You will develop your speaking, reading, vocabulary and critical thinking skills through fascinating topics such as eco-systems, biodiversity and exploitation leadership.

The tourism industry is one of the world's largest employers. This interactive course helps you master industry-related English language skills needed in hospitality jobs such as hotels, catering and concierge. You will have the opportunity to practice a wide range of tasks and functions typical of work in the hospitality industry, such as managing phone calls and correspondence, offering advice on attractions and solving customer service problems.

Public Speaking & Listening with TED Talks helps students master the skills of effective public speaking. Students model the preparation and delivery of presentations on TED Talks, the best public presentations in the world today. Students learn how to organise a speech, how to create slides to support their speech and how to deliver it effectively. During the course, students will have the opportunity to develop critical thinking and communication skills, as well as train their listening skills, build fluency and confidence and improve all aspects of pronunciation to take their speaking to the next level.
