Toronto’s communication and observation tower is probably one of the most recognizable landmarks in all of Canada. Standing 553.3 meters high, for many years the CN Tower was the tallest free-standing structure in the world. This must-see sight offers fantastic 360° city views, and for the very brave, the Edgewalk straps you in and lets you walk the along a ledge in the open air 356 Meters above ground.
Take an art walk through Toronto’s graffiti alley to explore three blocks of diverse street art in the heart of the city’s fashion district. This bright and colourful alley is the perfect place to snap some amazing selfies. It’s also a hot locale for mini street festivals, music videos, and of course, plenty of creative and political artistic expression.
Shop for delicious food and artisan crafts at the Toronto’s centrally located St. Lawrence Market, just a few blocks from Union Station. First opened in 1803, this more than 200-year-old market is popular with tourists and locals alike. In a 2012 article about food journeys, National Geographic put St. Lawrence Market at the top of the world’s best food markets.
If you’re in Toronto, you can’t miss visiting nearby Niagara Falls, one of Canada’s most iconic natural landscapes. Niagara Falls includes 3 different waterfalls that sit between Canada and the USA. Horseshoe Falls on the Canadian side is the most powerful waterfall in North America, with a drop of more than 50 meters. Catch some stunning misty rainbows, and amazing entertainment at events in Niagara Falls.
Discover more than 13 million artworks, natural history specimens, and cultural objects at Canada’s largest museum. The Royal Ontario Museum’s variety of exhibits offer a chance to learn about natural history, arts, and culture from around the entire world. It also shares the historical and cultural stories of Canada's first people’s and European settlement leading up to the present day.
Discover a world of boutique stores, delicious restaurants and coffee shops, and an array of amazing festivals and cultural events in Toronto’s Distillery District. This unique site is the former home of one of Canada’s largest distillers, Gooderham and Worts, founded in 1832. In 2003 this completely transformed site was reopened to provide its current pedestrian and bike-friendly cultural experiences.
Located downtown, next to Toronto’s City Hall, Nathan Philips Square is a year-round hub of cultural activity and events. In summer, enjoy a variety of free concerts and events, a weekly farmer’s market, an outdoor art exhibit and more. In winter, the iconic reflecting pool turns into an ice-rink and is a great way to enjoy one of Canada’s popular winter pastimes. It’s also the centre of the city’s New Years’ Eve celebrations and fireworks.
Hop on a 13-minute ferry ride and enjoy an escape from the city buzz to enjoy the Toronto Islands – 15 islands on Lake Ontario, all connected by a network of pathways and bridges. Toronto Islands offer a wide range of activities to enjoy from kayaking and canoeing to cycling, swimming, theatre, restaurants, gardens, and even an amusement park. Toronto Islands are perfect for a fun-filled day trip.
