Medical English Program

Develop specialized English communication skills and vocabulary for use in medical settings.

In Vancouver, this program is offered in both approved and approval-not-required versions, depending on its length and tuition.

Approved Programs (longer than six months or for which tuition is at least $4,000)
This program has been approved by the Private Training Institutions Regulatory Unit (PTIRU) of the Ministry of Post-Secondary Education and Future Skills.

Non-approved Programs (less than 6 months and less than $4000 tuition)
Students who enroll in a language program which is six months or less in duration or for which tuition is less than $4,000 may not make a claim against the Student Tuition Protection Fund, which is managed by the Private Training Institutions Regulatory Unit (PTIRU) of the Ministry of Post-Secondary Education and Future Skills. Further, this language program may not have been reviewed or approved by PTIRU.

Our Medical English program covers medical vocabulary and communication skills across a variety of different healthcare topics. The program is designed to help medical professionals communicate effectively with English-speaking patients and colleagues in international healthcare settings.

Vancouver: Full-Time Intensive or Full-Time Morning (this program is offered in the morning Core class time slot - students may register directly for Medical English or choose English Communication and select this class upon arrival.
Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney: Full-Time Morning (this is offered as an open elective class, students can take General English and select this class upon arrival).

Medical-English-Snapshot

In Vancouver, the Medical English Program is available on select start dates. Students may register in advance or take a General English/ English Communication program and select this class at the start of a session on campus. Medical English is offered as a morning Core class.

ILSC Brisbane, Melbourne, and Sydney offer Medical English open elective classes, meaning students can take General English and if they meet the English level requirement, can choose to take the Medical English elective class once they are on campus. Open class availability may vary depending on student enrolment, location, and demand.

Classes will cover a selection of Medical English topics that will rotate each session. Students can take up to two consecutive sessions in Vancouver, or up to three consecutive sessions in Australia and receive different course content each session. Topics may include:
