Our learner-centred, principled approach to learning and teaching is based on three fundamental beliefs, outlined below.

Language Levels

ILSC’s English and French levels are aligned to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). The CEFR is an internationally recognized standard for describing language proficiency.

Our Teachers

All ILSC teachers have university degrees, recognized language teaching qualifications and relevant teaching experience. They are carefully selected for their ability to motivate, engage, and inspire, and they take a creative approach to implementing ILSC's learner-centred methodology in the classroom.

Your ILSC teachers will help you succeed in your learning by modelling the language you are learning, and by acting as a guide, a resource person, and a coach. Be ready to be engaged in the learning process and feel free to ask your teachers for the help and support you need to achieve your learning goals.

Your Language Learning & Progress

ILSC offers dynamic ways to improve your abilities to understand and communicate in English, French or Hindi.  To support your progression, your ILSC teachers will:

  • Give you the power to decide on specific language learning goals to focus on each session.
  • Provide regular and meaningful feedback throughout the session so you can understand where you have been successful in your learning and what you need to work on to achieve your goals.
  • Assess you in a variety of ways including presentations, collaborative projects, formal essays, unit tests, and end-of-session writing and speaking assessments.
  • Meet with you at the end of each session to review your student progress reports and help you make course selections according to your language learning goals.

University-Pathway-Transfer

Academic Advising for University Pathway Students

If you choose the University Pathway program and plan to transition to one of our college, TAFE or university partner schools, Pathway Coordinators at each campus will provide you with additional support including:

  • Providing advice on higher education and pathway options and helping you plan your studies
  • Making sure you get placed in the correct prerequisite classes and are on track to achieve the minimum language requirement required by your chosen pathway partner
  • Monitoring your academic progress and advising you on how to improve your language skills
  • Creating individualized learning plans to help you progress faster
