Circuit Stream's Pre-university camps for teens are designed to develop in demand skills for some of today’s most popular industries and careers through a wide range of unique course options. Outside of the classroom, students will enjoy a residential living experience on the UBC campus, including accommodations, full-board meals, evening and weekend activities, 24/7 support from our camp leaders, and the chance to connect with other Canadian and international students.

Students live and dine within the UBC Totem Park Residence.*

  • CAPACITY: 300
  • ACCOMMODATIONS: Single or shared room (We will try to accommodate your room type preference; however, final placement is based on availability)
  • BATHROOMS: Shared, 1:6
  • LAUNDRY: Card-operated machines available ($2.50 per load)
  • INTERNET: Wireless internet available in student common spaces
  • STUDENT TO STAFF RATIO: 1:15
  • MEALS: 3 meals per day**

*Our Day Only programs offer students the same inclusive Junior Camp experience without accommodation, breakfast, and airport transfer service. Our Day Only program at UBC includes lunch and dinner.

Discover a pre-university study program that matches your interests and future study and career goals.

  • CLASS LOCATION: UBC Campus
  • STUDY HOURS: 60 hours total, 6 hours per day (Monday-Friday)
  • STUDY SCHEDULE: AM – PM (includes a 1 hr break for lunch)
  • LEARNING CONTENT: Topics will vary depending on your chosen course, but all camps combine interactive lessons with activities, project work and lab time every day. Students will gain direct industry exposure through guest lectures from industry experts, and from their instructors, hired for their extensive current experience in their field.
  • HANDS-ON PROJECT BUILDING: Students complete a final project that demonstrates their creativity, technical ability and problem-solving skills.
  • CERTIFICATION: Students receive a digital badge from Circuit Stream.

Enjoy a social program that combines onsite afternoon and evening activities and off-site trips.

WEEKEND OFF-SITE ACTIVITIES: 1 full-day off-site activity per week. Activities may include: Whistler, Capilano Suspension Bridge, Playland Amusement Park, Stanley Park, and more.

EVENING ACTIVITIES: Activities include scavenger hunts, sports evenings, student performances, and dance parties.

AI  CODING

Dive into the fascinating world of artificial intelligence and discover how machines can predict preferences. Students will learn the algorithms and techniques behind recommendation systems and will build their own model by the end of the course.

Outcomes: By the end of the course, students will create a recommendation system and a smart, interactive chatbot using Python and machine learning, applying real-world data in a domain of their choice.

BUSINESS  FINTECH

Explore how modern finance works by diving into the technology behind digital payments, online banking, and today’s most popular investing platforms. Students learn the fundamentals of financial systems, how apps like Wealthsimple and Robinhood operate, and what goes into designing useful FinTech tools. Through hands-on activities—including a simulated trading challenge or building a simple financial app prototype—students gain practical skills that bring money and technology to life in a real-world context. Beginner-friendly and ideal for students interested in business, entrepreneurship, or technology. 


Outcomes: By the end of the course, students complete a capstone project in which they either develop a simulated trading strategy or create a functional mockup of a FinTech app – demonstrating their understanding of digital finance, investing principles, and technology-driven innovation.

MEDICINE 

Discover how technology is transforming modern medicine through wearable sensors, medical devices, and emerging digital health tools. Students explore how devices measure and transmit health data, how imaging and diagnostic technologies work, and what goes into designing safe, effective solutions for real medical challenges. Hands-on lab activities — such as experimenting with medical image annotation tools or building a basic health dashboard — give students the chance to apply concepts directly. Perfect for aspiring doctors, engineers, or students curious about the future of healthcare.

Outcomes: By the end of the course, students complete a capstone project in which they either analyze and interpret health-related data from a wearable device or complete a medical imaging annotation exercise, applying their understanding of digital health tools, medical technology, and problem-solving in healthcare.

GAMING  CODING

Students master the fundamental concepts of game development and transform ideas into playable games using industry-standard tools and processes. This course introduces Unity and C# scripting, giving students the essential skills to design, code, and animate engaging game experiences.

Outcomes: Students build a fully playable maze game with a theme of their choice, incorporating challenges for a character to dodge enemies and applying all the skills learned during the course.

GAMING 

Students explore the world of game design using Unreal Engine, one of the industry’s leading game development tools. Throughout the course, students learn key concepts of game design and prototyping using industry-standard techniques. By the end, they will have the foundational knowledge and skills to create immersive gaming experiences using Unreal Engine and Blueprints.

Outcomes: Students prototype a platform game level with a theme of their choice, incorporating game mechanics, lighting, sound, and interactive player experiences.

AI  ROBOTICS

This course introduces students to artificial intelligence and robotics through hands-on programming. Students begin by building their own robot car, then bring it to life with Python, the same programming language used by AI engineers. They learn how robots use cameras and sensors to understand their surroundings, explore the basics of computer vision, and train their own AI models to help their robot recognize objects and make decisions. Over the course, students steadily upgrade their robot from remote-controlled to autonomous. The course concludes with a team challenge where students put their self-driving robots to the test. No prior coding experience is required.

Outcomes: Students program their robot car to complete an autonomous driving challenge, then showcase their work in a final demo and competition

Weekly Program Schedule

Students will combine classes with daily activities from Monday to Friday and a full day excursion on the weekend. This program also includes a suite of evening activities.
