Learn to Earn Graduation
This March of 2023, President and Chief Operating Officer Christopher Mediratta joined our team at the new ILSC New Delhi campus to celebrate the Learn to Earn (LTE) graduation!
LTE is an educational scholarship program that provides young women from India with the opportunity to learn English and receive life-skills training that prepares them for employment in the education, hospitality, and service sectors.
We warmly congratulate our LTE graduates and are excited to welcome our next group of participants with the commencement of Cohort 20!
Watch the video below to meet Manju, our talented LTE graduate of Cohort 19 who now works as a full-time intern at ILSC New Delhi, and hear about her experience in the LTE program!
We also invite you to take a look at our new ILSC New Delhi campus below!
Global Language Curriculum Team
English Foundation and Communication Assessment Revision:
We’re listening! In response to feedback from students, teachers, and academic managers, the Global Language Curriculum Team has been focusing on updating: ILSC’s assessment process, schedule, tasks, and types; assessment tools used; and teacher assessment training.
We’re working to ensure that our assessment practices:
- Support ILSC’s student centred teaching and learning philosophy by creating assessments that encourage creativity, self-expression, and collaboration with other learners.
- Are clear, reliable, and achievable in number for students and teachers.
- Are practical and meaningful to help students understand performance expectations and preparedness for subsequent levels.
- Provide teaching and learning opportunities that promote meaningful and timely feedback throughout sessions.
- Encourage students to take responsibility for their own learning through a process of ongoing self-assessments and self-reflections.
- Remain consistent across campuses and transparent to all stakeholders, including students, teachers, agents, pathway partners, parents, and academic/student advising teams.
- Support regular and ongoing opportunities for teacher training, including level calibration and assessment moderation.
We’d like to acknowledge and thank teachers who have provided feedback and collaborated with us on this project.
The first phase of the revised assessment process, schedule, and tools will commence with the new edition English Foundation and English Communication program in session six. A review and revision of our other core programs (EAP, Test Prep, Creative and Cultural, and Business English) will follow later in the year. Stay tuned for more details coming soon!
Green Standard Schools Accreditation
In an ideal world, everyone would be mindful of their environmental impact and be self-motivated and action-oriented enough to make the lifestyle adjustments necessary. While an increasing number of people and organizations strive to adopt sustainable lifestyle and business practices, there is more to be done in the global race to protect the environment - that’s why organizations like Green Standard Schools (GSS) are helping us foster an environmentally-mindful community and business model!
GSS is a non-profit association focused on environmental sustainability and the role of language schools in global environmental initiatives. The association encourages language schools to adopt sustainability practices across campuses and instill these values in staff and students.
To date, ILSC Vancouver is the only ILSC school in Canada and the first school in North America to be certified by GSS, while ILSC Brisbane is the first ILSC school in Australia to be GSS-certified.
It was a moment of pride and pleasure when ILSC Brisbane was the first Australian ILSC campus to be accredited this rewarding certification. The accreditation process was very detailed, entailing examination of all areas of building management and resource use. We have a baseline score of 143 and look forward to working with our building management team and reviewing our own operational practices to increase this score!
ILSC Language Schools and Greystone College have a history of adopting and choosing sustainable practices in our buildings and operations management; however, one task we hadn’t yet tackled was the carbon emissions used for students to come and study with us abroad. The accreditation process brought this key issue forward, and we have now started tracking these carbon emissions in metric tonnes. The next step will be tracking the activities we do to offset these emissions.
Becoming accredited by GSS is important to our organization as it recognizes and measures our commitment to sustainability. Every year, we look forward to measuring and improving our positioning as a committed, sustainable education provider choosing to conduct our services to students in environmentally-protective ways and in sustainable buildings.
Our long-term goal is to certify all of our schools. We welcome you to take steps now to prepare your location for certification. Visit the GSS website to learn more about the association and how we can get our schools more involved in environmental protection.
Pathway Partnerships
As of January 2023, we have launched a new blog series featuring our Canadian pathway partners. This blog series will serve the following purposes:
- Feature our pathway partners on our website and social media platforms to give them and the ILSC University Pathway Program greater visibility
- Introduce all of our pathway partners to the market, including lesser-known partner institutions
- Engage our pathway partners by ensuring that their partnership with ILSC gives them greater exposure to markets and agents
- Educate prospective students and agents on the unique features of different partner institutions
- Empower students to make informed decisions by allowing them to seamlessly compare partner institutions using standardized information presented in the blog series
- Create more content for the ILSC University Pathway Program
Thus far, we have featured the following institutions on our blog:
- Royal Roads University
- Capilano University
- Yorkville University & Toronto Film School
- Sheridan College
We will publish one to two blog posts per month and would like to make them accessible through the Knowledge Hub. Most pathway partners are excited by this opportunity, and we will post as we receive their responses.
We look forward to introducing you to more of our Canadian pathway partners and welcome you to share blog posts with agents and your network by simply clicking on the social media icons in the left sidebar of each post.
