ELS Admissions Reflections 2023:
Cory Smith - Director of Admissions for ELS Language Centers
As Director of Admissions for ELS Language Centers, I want to acknowledge the tremendous work of our collaborative team this year. The ELS Admissions team worked alongside our partners at ILSC to develop and fine tune systems, resources, share ideas, and move forward with the common goals to deliver transformative learning experiences, grow, and sustain an active global community, expand globally and locally, and leverage our collective expertise to stimulate innovation and evolution. As I reflect on some of the highlights that have allowed us to move toward these goals, I’d like to spotlight a few items:
- Training, launch, and fine-tuning of a new enrollment management system
- Integration of the ELS agent network to the Knowledge Hub
- Migration of the ELS application and processing to HubSpot
- A 96% increase in applications processed in 2023 over 2022
- Applications processed for students of 116 different nationalities
- Addition of 3362 new parent agencies, from 101 countries to the ELS Master Agent List
I'm beyond proud of the work of our team has accomplished this year and I can hardly wait to see what we will collectively achieve in 2024.
ELS Operations Reflections 2023:
Andrea Domonkos – Senior Director, U.S. Operations
'Twas the night before Christmas, when all through ELS
Not a creature was stirring, just a CD double-checking HMIS
The stockings were hung in the LTC with care,
As Christian hoped for a new wireless network to share.
The students were nestled all snug in their bed,
While Chris was out shopping to make sure the dorm students were fed;
And Sasha in her 'kerchief, and I in my cap,
Had just settled down with this month's aging report in my lap.
When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from the bed to find from Alex the latest housing disaster.
Away to the window I flew like a flash,
Only to find that, due to a missed APU, we'll be losing a lot of cash.
The moon on the breast of a Florida palm tree
While ACCET also loomed at the end of 2023.
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
I find the CDs preparing for new arrivals that they hold so dear.
With a little old driver, so lively and quick,
The CDs knew it must be St. Nick.
More rapid than eagles his coursers they came,
And they heard him whistle and shout, as he called them by name;
"Now, Evangeline! Now, Jonathon! now, Derek and Don!
On, Dean! on Devin! on, Ray and John!
To the top of the porch! to the top of the wall!
Make sure to send safe arrivals to all!"
As dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly,
When they meet the Kindai students in the middle of the nigh
So up to the house-top the coursers they flew,
With the sleigh full of invoices and e-mails, to the ELS crew.
And then, in a twinkling, Jennifer heard on the roof
The prancing and pawing of each little hoof.
As I drew in my hand, and was turning around,
All I saw was an agent that had fallen on the ground.
Santa was dressed all in fur, from his head to his foot,
And Kathleen tried to clean off the ashes and soot;
A bundle of center beautification items he had flung on his back,
And he posed for an important social media post with Elizabeth dressed in black.
His eyes -- how they twinkled! his dimples how merry!
His cheeks were like roses, his creativity just like Wally!
His droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow,
And his hard work reminded Andrea of the CDs in a row;
The stump of a pipe he held tight in his teeth,
As the centers were preparing for yet another visitor on the eighteenth;
He had a broad face and a little round belly,
Confused which e-mail address the system migration used for the telly.
He was chubby and plump, a right jolly old elf,
He shook his head when he saw Simon doing camp by himself;
A wink of his eye and a twist of his head,
As the CDs patience waiting for dorm pricing from the university held on by a thread;
He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work,
And filled all the stockings; the Musashino students started to twerk,
And laying his finger aside of his nose,
And giving a nod, Matthew and the CDs brilliantly handled Odyssey like a rose;
He sprang to his sleigh, to his team gave a whistle,
And ran to avoid the latest HR issue.
But I heard him exclaim, ere he drove out of sight,
THANK YOU TO ALL, AND TO ALL A GOOD-NIGHT!
ELS Academic Reflections 2023:
Ward Morrow – Vice President of Academic Affairs
As December rolls on, it is a good time to reflect on the busy academic year at ELS. What a year it has been! Our continuing collaboration with ILSC brought ELS several new initiatives, starting with PROLA late last year. Hopefully, PROLA has improved efficiency at the centers, and made for a more productive and enjoyable first Monday experience for students, teachers, and Academic Directors. Collaboration with ILSC also brought ELS a new management system, Odyssey. The adoption of Odyssey makes perfect sense in that it unites all ELS functional areas – academics, accounting, admissions, operations – into one system. I am truly grateful for the way Academic Directors, Center Directors, and teachers came together to learn Odyssey and adopt it so quickly. Everyone took to Odyssey with an open mind and an earnest desire to make it succeed.
Shortly after Odyssey was put into full operation at ELS, our centers greeted 700+ eager students from Kindai University and Chukyo University. This annual influx of Kindai and Chukyo students requires a tremendous amount of preparation – housing, hiring, and training new teachers, planning activities, and more. As usual, the centers rose to the occasion and the students have been enjoying the experience of a lifetime.
I am sincerely appreciative of the good work of all of the teachers, Academic Directors and Center Directors at the centers. Throughout the year, one thing remained constant: the fact that ELS students continued to receive an outstanding experience in the classroom. I am looking forward to a great 2024 and more mutually beneficial collaboration between the academic teams at ELS and ILSC!
