Hello from ELS!
We, at ELS Educational Services, Inc. (ELS) are delighted to join our new global family, and are excited to learn and share and help contribute toward this new merged powerhouse of ILSC/ELS/Greystone.
Just as an introduction-ELS has been a significant US player in our industry for over 60 years-we had grown (67 operating centers in 2016) and contracted (none during the pandemic, and 12 open now) as market and world conditions changed throughout the decades.
ELS employees take great pride in our mission and our brand and have been unwavering in their commitment to academic excellence and integrity. All but one of our currently opened centers operate on the campuses of US universities, offering ELS students an unparalleled campus-based living experience and full integration with our partner university. In fact, over 600 US institutions of higher education accept the completion of ELS levels as meeting the English language requirement for admission. Historically, close to two-thirds of our enrollments were moving on to US universities after their ELS studies.
As of September 2020, we started gradually reopening our centers, and currently, 12 outstanding teams at 12 great US locations are serving ELS students. The recovery in the US has not been as rapid and significant as in Australia and Canada, but ELS is well positioned with a great reputation, a flexible model and the unique ability to expand quickly as the enrollments grow further.
This month our centers have greeted the largest cohort of new students since we reopened (850!), and have done a remarkable job in finding student housing, securing classrooms, and above all, hiring qualified and very capable instructors and staff to support the growth. As a serendipitous reward and validation, ELS was honored to recently win the ST Star award as Best Chain School in 2022. It was wonderful to see our new joint team from ILSC and ELS take the stage and be honored together.
We have also been learning a lot about the amazing knowledge, capabilities and experience of our ILSC family members and are truly excited to work further on combining the best of three powerful brands and from four amazing countries, and offer an unapparelled portfolio of services, programs, features and capabilities. We are so very similar and so very complementary! This will be fun! In the coming editions of the newsletter, we plan on featuring ELS centers, our teams and departments, so you can start getting to know us all a bit more. Warm wishes to all from your US friends!
