The Academic Coordinator is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the following:

  • Teacher management and development
  • Student assistance in achieving academic goals.
  • Record keeping on student and teacher performance, program implementation and administrative systems
  • Program implementation and feedback
  • Compliance with the ELICOS regulations, the National Code and ESOS Act requirements
Job Duties: 

The Academic Coordinator is responsible for assisting the Director of Studies to oversee the above, which includes:

Educational:

  • Helping the Director of Studies to implement new and updated programs and curriculum
  • Providing information and guidance to teachers and students
  • Ensuring full compliance with ELICOS regulations, the National Code and ESOS Act requirements
  • Working with program directors in Sydney and at other centres to ensure consistent delivery
  • Providing teaching support, knowledge and expertise to novice and experienced teachers to facilitate excellence in teaching standards

Human Resources:

  • Assisting with the hiring, induction and training of new teachers
  • Assisting in the organization of professional development programs, including taking an active role in the delivery of Professional Development Sessions
  • Supervising the program coordinators, Head Teachers, and teachers
  • Participating in the ILSC group’s HR development initiatives

Administration:

  • Assisting with all aspects of day-to-day program administration including: Intake activities and session preparations, creating and maintaining accurate class and attendance records, student communication and notices, student progress reports and teacher resources and texts
  • Assisting with all aspects of day-to-day teacher administration including: keeping track of sick days / vacations, surveys, scheduling, teacher communication and notices, class assignments; maintaining staff files and assisting the Director of Studies with teacher performance management
  • Covering the Relief Line 2-3 days per week
  • Ensuring that all relief teachers are well set-up and prepared for their classes (including preparing lessons for them when necessary) with the assistance of the Head Teachers
  • Being available to help and support them, above all before the start of T1 classes
  • Assisting with all aspects of day-to-day student administration including: testing for class and level placement, class changes, attendance and progress reports and class surveys, and student counselling
  • Communicating with students and administrative staff on students’ academic performance, including academic counselling, attendance issues and visa requirements
  • Running six monthly student focus groups, including recording and reporting on feedback, and developing actions from the focus groups

General:

  • Actively upholding Mission and Vision: Develop and cascade the organization’s  strategy and mission statement to all administrative staff and faculty, and ensure that the ILSC mission is well-supported at the campus level
  • Facilitate excellent communication amongst teachers to maintain a supportive, proactive teaching environment
  • Lead and participate in CSR initiatives
  • Develop, foster and instill the ILSC philosophy with new and current staff
  • Consistently conduct oneself in a professional manner.  A warm, friendly and supportive approach towards the internal and external clients of ILSC is needed so that each student / staff is made to feel cared for and welcomed
  • Enforcement of the “English Only” policy
  • Maintenance of a safe, tidy and organized work area
  • Participation in public relations events
  • Willing to support other ILSC staff with duties outside of the specified job description when needed
Essential Qualifications, Skills, and Attributes: 

 

Level of Education Required: 

  • Bachelor degree (Masters’ Degree preferred)
  • Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL) qualifications

Specialized Education desired in addition to above:

  • Having learnt another language in a foreign environment
  • Fluency in other languages
  • Excellent computer knowledge
  • Customer-service knowledge
  • First Aid Certificate

Work Experience Required

  • Minimum 1-2 years’ experience in an academic management role
  • Minimum 5-6 years’ Teaching English as a Second Language
  • Teaching adults
  • Teaching academic classes such as Cambridge and IELTS
  • Curriculum development
  • Good Knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Customer service experience
  • Valid work visa for Australia required
