The Technology Team has been hard at work upgrading organization-wide applications, software, and technology infrastructure to create a seamless digital experience for staff, faculty, and students. Read on to learn about the exciting technology upgrades commencing in Q2 2023 and meet our newest team member!

Student Connect:

The launch of our student-focused portal has quickly gained traction with students and our community beyond. We will continue to build this platform for current, future, and past students to provide everyone with an appreciation for what student life is like at ELS, ILSC, and Greystone College. In Q2 2023, the myILSC and myGreystone applications will be updated to link directly with Student Connect.

Security Awareness Training:

As you all know, raising technology security awareness is important to the safety of our organization’s technology infrastructure and to the protection of confidential data.

We are excited to announce that we have partnered with a technology security awareness training organization. Their state-of-the-art platform includes security awareness training and simulated phishing attacks that will help us create a “human firewall” by training our employees to spot and report malicious emails.

We will begin by sending out training and phishing tests for all employees during the first part of Q2 2023. Soon after, we will send simulated phishing emails to determine how likely our employees are to fall victim to a phishing attack.

WiFi Infrastructure:
All our campus locations continue to see increased usage of our wireless internet. We will continue to upgrade our campus locations around the globe, with Melbourne, Brisbane, and Vancouver slated for Q2-Q4 2023.

ELS Odyssey 1.1:

Our improved version of Odyssey for ELS is nearing completion of development. Throughout Q2, ELS teams will train and familiarize themselves with Odyssey and Ody. The foundational design of Odyssey and these latest improvements will further allow us to integrate with other software solutions in the future.

ILSC Language School and Greystone College Perth:

The Technology Team is always excited to open a new campus where our latest technology offerings become standardized. The new ILSC Language School and Greystone College campus in Perth, Australia, will be equipped with the following:

  • Faculty laptops
  • Mobile projectors
  • Serverless infrastructure
  • WiFi that automatically scales to meet demand
Built-in audio system throughout main areas

Microsoft Edge Browser:

Features of Microsoft Edge are continuing to evolve, and in some cases, better meet our needs from an application standpoint, especially when using Odyssey. We will continue to support Google Chrome while concurrently providing updates to Microsoft Edge. Microsoft Edge can be found on your desktop or by clicking the Windows start button.

Microsoft Loop:

Microsoft has released the new application Loop, which we have made available to all staff through the Microsoft 365 portal. The intent of Loop is to make collaboration easier between Microsoft 365 applications (Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams, etc.). You can learn more about Loop here.

New Technology Team Members:

In Q1 2023, we onboarded one new team member who has been a great support to our application and integration development.

Bob Wu - Software Engineer

Bob Wu joined our team with extensive development experience as a Software Engineer at some great local companies, including iQmetrix, Plenty of Fish, and more. Not only is Bob integrating some of our newest platforms with Odyssey, but he is integrating his knowledge and experience into our organization’s culture of driving continuous improvement for all partners as well.
