Technology Team Updates

By ILSC on January, 9 2023

The technology team has plenty of projects on the go to support our internal operations and student and partner experiences. Check out what's new or coming soon.

Odyssey and Ody access through MS 365:

In January of 2023, all staff and faculty will access Odyssey and Ody via Microsoft 365. Users will no longer require a local installation on their devices and can access them via the web through Microsoft 365.

Student Connect:

In Q1 of 2023, we will be launching a public version of the Student Connect portal to provide external users with a glimpse into what life is like for students during their journey with us.

ELS Odyssey 1.1:

We are developing an improved version of Odyssey which will serve our ELS team members and all ILSC and Greystone College members soon after. Key features include registration data automatically fed into a workflow management system -> Odyssey, single login to access multiple campuses, integration with visa issuing agency, gradebook within Ody, and a web-based version allowing easier management of student files within MS 365.

New Service ticketing system:

In Q1 of 2023, we will be launching a new version of the ticketing system that serves Academic Assessments (ILSC and ELS English or French Academic Placement Test formerly known as PROLA), Marketing and Technology issues and requests.  This new system will have a similar look and feel.  Among some of the changes, there will be improvements to the ticket submission form and credentials to access will be the same as MS 365.

External Email Notifier:

Email continues to be a threat to our cybersecurity. We enabled a flag on desktop and mobile versions of email clients so that when external emails are received, there will be a notification in the message header displaying "External".

Course Request:

At our Sydney campus, we are piloting a digital platform for ILSC students to give their course preferences for the next session. In week four, students receive a link, and with just a few clicks on their mobile devices, they choose from an offering of classes based on the overall level put into the SPRs. This new digital platform will reduce errors and save time for students, teachers, and academic staff as they prepare for the new session.

Welcome new Technology team members:

Over the past three months, we have onboarded one new team member who seamlessly immersed themselves into our ecosystem.

Fernando Rocho:

Fernando joined our Vancouver school as an intern in Q3 of 2022. His technical skillsets and understanding of staff, faculty and students' needs made him a valuable asset to the Vancouver campus. In December, Fernando was promoted to the Global Technology team where he is now supporting users around the globe with their technology requests and issues.
