Counselor In Training Program (CIT)
- Combine English language classes with exciting afternoon and weekend activities
- Learn counseling and leadership skills, first aid, and more with a week of afternoon, in-class training
- Apply your new skills as you lead activities under the guidance of Senior Counselors
ILSC's Counselor in Training Program is a leadership development program for youth aged 18-21. The program is geared towards enthusiastic youth who want to become junior leaders. Program participants will help lead activities under the mentorship of current Youth Program staff. The 4 or 8 week program covers first aid training, counseling skills, activity skills, and leadership training. CITs will receive ongoing evaluations and guidance throughout the program.

Program Overview
Week 1
Monday to Friday
9:00 am - 12:30 pm: ESL Classes
1:20 pm - 4:00 pm: Leadership Training and program preparation
Topics covered in Leadership Training Include:
- Communication styles
- Motivating others
- Building meaningful working relationships
- Time management and working under pressure
- Decision making
- Being attentive/responding to various needs
- Creating positive group dynamics
- Building trust
- Understanding group dynamics
- First aid training
- Organizing activities
- Ensuring safety
Weeks 2-4 or Weeks 2-8
Monday to Friday
9:00 am - 12:30 pm: ESL classes
12:30 pm - 1:30 pm: Lunch with students and meeting with the counselors
1:30 pm - 4:30 pm: Leading afternoon activities
Saturday
1:30 pm - 4:30 pm: Full day field-trip leading
In weeks 2-4, Counselors in Training will put
their newly learned leadership skill to the test
by shadowing an experienced senior counselor
and supporting with youth program activities
and adventure.
At the end of the Counselors in Training Program, C.I.T. participants will receive:
- A Certificate of Completion and levels for ESL
- A Certificate of "Leadership Training"
- A performance report from an experienced senior counselor

Saturdays: 8:00 am - 6:00 pm

* Package includes registration, and materials fees; full-board, single room
accommodation; transportation costs during ILSC activities; and counselor training workshops and materials.
* Package does not include daily public transit costs (from Homestay to school);
medical insurance; flight to/from San Francisco; and airport pickup/drop-off.
