This month, ILSC is celebrating Earth Month with a variety of eco-themed activities and events. On Sunday, Apr, 6th, a few ILSC-Sydney Students went to explore the Marrickville Organic Markets. The activity coordinator for the event, ILSC instructor, Alex Papas shares the experience:
After what seemed as a slow start with only three students turning up in the morning, it was a pleasant surprise to have 11 turn up in total.
Due to heavy rain and delay we quickly jumped on a train to Stanmore and made our way to the markets walking for approx. 20 minutes. This was a good opportunity to practise our conversation and pronunciation whilst getting to know each other a little more.
After having spilt my coffee in the morning I was now yearning for a caffeine hit, as were several other students. They were quick to convince me that the 7 Eleven coffee was a deal breaker for $1 a cappuccino. This was an offer too good to refuse.
As we approached the markets we were inundated with an abundance of aromas ranging from coffee beans to fresh fruit and vegetables, sizzling lamb and sausages and baked bread.
It was a great opportunity to listen to stall operator’s talk about their produce and students asked and answered questions in English.
We were amazed at the variety of organic food, clothing, jewellery and much more. Students enjoyed getting lost amongst it all and some even making a purchase or two.
Overall, this excursion was enjoyable and educational. Despite the bad weather we all kept our spirits up and had a great time! I recommend you check it out.
